My creation process

For this project I worked closely with a tech designer to create a prison level in the Unity game engine. The mechanics took inspiration from old school Resident Evil with the fixed camera perspective and tank controls. The level design itself took inspiration from the prison in phasmaphobia. I wanted to make a space that felt confined like a prison but offered room for combat. The level is not representative of a full sized prison. It is a portion of a prison.

I started off with a rough blockout of what I wanted to cover in the prison then I went over and setdressed the level with asset packs provided by the tech designer.

Security room

For the finished project I tried to make the level look as close to a real prison as possible within the asset packs I was provided. I tried to keep the main hall and cell block more open to provide space for combat, while the security room and armory are tighter but contain ammo for the player to use for combat. I also tried to keep everything uniform and neat as most real prisons tend to be. The rubble is the only exception to this rule. The gameplay is low res and grainy, but this was done intentionally as we wanted the game to resemble a playstation 1 era Resident evil game In the end, this was an different project from what im used to working on. It was an interesting challenge and I had a lot of fun with it.
